PATAGONIA TRASHUMANTE · ARGENTINA

Argentine Guides. Northern Water. One Idea.

An outfit born in northern Patagonia: guides, cooks and drivers behind a camp that moves, led by a guide who spent his life looking for quiet water.

THE FOUNDER

Gerardo Santos Tsuji

Gerardo grew up with a fly rod in his hand. The passion came down from his father and grandfather in San Carlos de Bariloche, perhaps the fly fishing capital of Argentina, and it carried him across Patagonia, the rest of the country and much of Latin America, first with his family and later on his own.

Years of that wandering led to one conviction: the finest trout water in Patagonia is not where the crowds are. So he built Patagonia Trashumante around an undeveloped corner of the north, a country of never-ending rivers and lakes, and began hosting anglers from all over the world who want their Patagonia pure, adventurous and a long way from anyone’s comfort zone.

No two trips are the same, because there is no fixed program. You and Gerardo design your fly fishing expedition together: the waters you like and your anglers like, the way you fish, dries or streamers, big rivers or spring creeks. That specificity is what changes the number of fish, andt how the trip feels.

We are from here. The families who own the land along these rivers are neighbours, old friends, in some cases our own, and that is worth more than any contract: it opens gates, ranch tracks and stretches of river that stay quiet because reaching them takes a lifetime of local ties.

HEAD MECHANIC

Most of the crew were born within sight of the water they now work. After his first trip with us, Globe-Truiteur came back season after season and now works with us. He has told our story several times, in French fly fishing magazines and on his own site: read the article.

The herds moved through these valleys long before we did. We just follow.

The team is small, the season is short and the water is long. Tell us when you can get away.
